Effective immediately, the government of Yukon will end rebates for Tesla products, review and cancel non-essential Starlink accounts, and shift digital communications away from X
The Yukon government has announced counter-measures in response to the latest US tariffs, which it claims violate trade agreements and threaten the partnership between the two countries.
Premier Ranj Pillai emphasized at a media briefing on Thursday that the US tariffs will have far-reaching consequences, affecting not only the Yukon but also the US and the global economy as a whole.
"These tariffs have real impacts for people here in the Yukon. It will make life more expensive for Americans and Canadians. It will make it more difficult for companies to do business on both sides of the border, and it will have real consequences for the global economy."
Effective immediately, the government of Yukon will end rebates for Tesla products, review and cancel non-essential Starlink accounts, and shift digital communications away from X (formerly Twitter).
According to the Premier, the government is also continuing to implement its Phase 1 response, which includes ending US liquor sales, supporting local businesses, and prioritizing Yukon First Nations businesses.
