The new cases are of the Gamma variant
There are twelve new cases of the COVID-19 gamma variant to report.
The news comes from a press release issued yesterday afternoon.
The outbreak is linked to Whitehorse high school graduates, two classes at Elijah Smith Elementary School, and adults who are socializing at parties and bars.
Of the 36 cases announced since June 4, only two have been fully vaccinated.
Yukon’s Acting Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Catherine Elliott is strongly recommending that anyone who is unvaccinated to get their shot.
That territory’s active case count is now at 33.
