The territory is currently dealing with an outbreak that Dr. Hanley says has "outstripped anything we've seen before."
The territory’s COVID-19 out break continues.
Yesterday afternoon, Yukon’s Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley announced 30 new confirmed cases. Twenty-three of the cases are in Whitehorse and seven are in rural communities. That puts the territory’s active infection count at 100.
According to the latest news release, a person has been hospitalized and two previous cases remain in the hospital. There are also 14 recoveries to report. Contact tracing is under way.
There are also exposure notices for the following schools: Kluane School in Destruction Bay, Whitehorse Elementary, J.V. Clark School in Mayo, Holy Family Elementary School in Whitehorse, Takhini Elementary School in Whitehorse, and grade 9 and 10 classes at Porter Creek Senior Secondary. Staff and students have been advised to either self-isolate or self-monitor depending on exposure. Cases linked to the identified schools were infectious during the last days of school.
Anyone experiencing symptoms in Whitehorse should call the COVID-19 Testing and Assessment Centre or book a test online. Drive-up testing is also open at the centre from 6:30pm to 9:30pm daily. People in communities should contact their rural community health centre.
