Yukon Coroner Says There are 20 Deaths With No Confirmed Cause

BC toxicology testing facility overloaded due to fentanyl deaths there.

Toxicology testing in British Columbia is in some cases taking six months to complete.

Officials there say the long delay is due to more deaths in the province because of the opioid fentanyl.

Here in the Yukon, the Coroner's Service says there are 20 deaths with no confirmed cause of death.

Yet Acting Chief Coroner Heather Jones says fentanyl is still relevant as there has been three confirmed overdose deaths since May 2017, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths due to fentanyl to eight since April 2016.
