A Yukon Cancer Incidence Report has recently been released by the Yukon Chief Medical Officer of Health. The report analyzed cancer statistics in the territory from 2009-2016.

Yukon Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Brendan Hanley says his recently released Yukon Cancer Incidents reports suggests that cancer rates in the territory per population have decreased in recent years.

The report analyzed cancer rates in the Yukon from 2009-2016, and aims to inform the public and health professionals about cancer control and prevention.

Despite the decline of cancer incidence rates, Hanley suggests that the number of individuals diagnosed with cancer in the terrtiroy is expected to increase as Yukon's population ages and grows. He says increasing demand on health and social services can also be expected in coming years.

In terms of statistics, the report indicates that breast cancer is  the most common form of cancer diagnosed in Yukon. Lung, colorectal and prostate cancers are the next most commonly diagnosed.

The report suggests that cancer incidence rats in Yukon are very similar to rates in the rest of Canada.
