Minister John Streicker stated more engineering work needed to be conducted.
The planning process to repair the Ross River Suspension Bridge appears to have cleared most major hurdles.
Community Services Minister John Streicker says extra engineering work need to be completed on the anchor points and that a request for proposals should soon be issued.
He says talks are now ongoing with the Ross River Dena Council about the project.
Streicker could not give a timeline on when the repairs would be completed, hoping for this year.
“It’s difficult for me to give an exact sense of when the bridge will be completed or a date because it’s going to go to an RFP process. We’re still hopeful and confident that it will be this year. I will do my best to keep the members opposite informed.”
The federal government is contributing $2.5 million, while the territorial government has pledged up to $750,000 to the rehabilitation.
The historic bridge was closed in 2013, after it was determined that the bridge was unsafe for use.
