Government calling on proponents with projects that could contribute to the territory's future electricity supply.
The Government of Yukon is encouraging Yukon First Nations, businesses, and other organizations to share information on potential electricity generation and storage projects.
In a media release, the Yukon government announced its online Power Potential Portal, which is designed to help the government identify potential new sources of dependable electricity.
According to the release, the government is primarily interested in electricity generation projects that can provide more than five megawatts of dependable winter power and energy storage projects that can improve winter reliability and support grid stability.
In the release, the Yukon government clarifies that the Power Potential Portal is an early planning step, rather than a formal call for power or commitment to purchase electricity.
The release says that the Power Potential Portal complements the Yukon Energy Corporation’s ongoing work to advance the Whitehorse Power Centres and revitalize the Mayo Generating station.
