The project is expected to be completed by the end of August.
Shipyard’s Park in Whitehorse is getting a brand-new inclusive playground.
The playground will include double-wide ramps that allow space for mobility devices and strollers to roll side-by-side, roller slides that eliminate static electricity, and a quiet zone designed for children with sensory processing disorders.
The 9,500-square foot play space is thanks to local Canadian Tire dealers and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities.
City staff have consulted with the Fireweed Market to ensure that it will be able to continue every Thursday as construction gets underway.
The playground will be south of the fire pit to keep the northern area available for large events such as Rendezvous, the Yukon Quest, and Canada Day.
Prep work began on Friday and a city contractor was on site this morning to fence off the area.
Play structures will be installed starting July 12th, with the project expected to be completed by the end of August.
