The group will be chaired by Assistant Deputy Minister of Justice Allan Lucier to work towards implementing the recommendations which came out of the report earlier this month.
Whitehorse Corrections Implementation Working Group
An implementation working group has been created to further the Whitehorse Correctional Centre inspection recommendations.
Members of the working group will input on how to implement the recommendations, and the group will be chaired by Assistant Deputy Minister of Justice Allan Lucier.
Other prominent partners include the Investigations and Standards Office, the Council of Yukon First Nation, and Kwanlin Dun First Nation.
More representation from other Yukon First Nations governments are also anticipated.
To commence, a meeting will be held in September to create the work plan, and timelines for publicly reporting progress.
The Matrix Report of Recommendations and Responses document prepared by the Department of Justice will serve as a basis to see what priorities can be implemented and where discussions can be advanced with key partners.
Minister of Justice Tracy-Anne McPhee notes the importance of collaboration with First Nations governments and community justice partners to start implementing the recommendations set out in the report.
Queens Counsel, David Loukidelis' report on the inspection of Whitehorse Correction Centre came out Aug 16th.
