Three Yukon First Nations Sign Land Use Planning Agreement

The agreement will cover ecosystem and culture conservation

Three southern Yukon First Nations have signed an agreement to develop a charter for better conservation of ecosystems and culture.

The Kwanlin Dun First Nation, Ta'an Kwach'an Council and Carcross Tagish First Nation are partnering on the Southern Lakes Indigenous Land Use Planning project.

The goal of the project is to develop an indigenous “preparation” initiative with the keystone project being a First Nation designed and led cultural and ecosystem based conservation design that supports an integrated multi-party Southern Lakes Land Use Planning process.

Kwanlin Dun Chief Doris Bill says the partnership represents a unique and innovative approach to enacting the provisions and unlocking the potential within our modern-day treaties
