Team North Defeats Team EDN 7-0 Today in Women's Division

The qualifying rounds are set to begin.

Team North dominated Team Eastern Door & North (EDN) 7-0 today in the women's division during day three of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.

Team North dominated Team Eastern Door & North (EDN) 7-0 today in the women's division during day three of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships.

The big win today means the team is one step closer to the quarter finals tomorrow and Female Head Coach Carson Roche says watching the girls play today was motivating.

"It was a pretty good win and we felt pretty confident. I think tonight will be another one in the bag. We know who our opponent is and we're thinking about our goal for tomorrow, the quarter finals. We've been at this tournament for years and years and the coaches are saying this is the best we've played. We found our offence today. We only had one goal heading into today so getting seven today really helps with the girls."

Team North Events Manager Beth Hudson says the tough games that have been battled out by the Team North women's division mean they're mentally prepared heading into the weekend.

"The girls were tough heading into the round robin playing Team Saskatchewan and BC knowing they were going to be the toughest competition here for us.We  definitely came out hard playing against BC and scoring the opening goal of the first game. I'm really impressed with the girls and it's a big step forward. I think the outcome of the round robin is what we expected."

Hudson says Team North is confident with their upcoming matches.

"Going into the qualifying rounds and the quarters, we're matched up well against EDN and we know what to expect. I think we can give them a really good game provided WE play to the best of their abilities."

Hudson says the upcoming Team North games will be the biggest and toughest ones yet.

"The next match for Team North male is actually a rematch with Team Ontario.  I imagine that game is going to be pretty intense. The guys are really going to have to bring their all because they had the element of surprise last time coming in and underestimating their (Team Ontario) ability. Ontario will not take us lightly and they have a game plan in place. The girls are going to be playing New Brunswick tonight in their next game. Hope both teams can find their own strength and come out hard."

CHON-FM will have live coverage of the final games of the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships from Takhini Arena on Sunday.
