The only one onboard wearing a life jacket was the dog.
Three people and a dog are safe after a boat capsized on Marsh Lake last Monday.
Whitehorse RCMP say a call came in around 6:35 pm about a sailboat capsized on Marsh Lake and two people were missing in the water. The call was made by another boater who said their ship was disabled and they had lost sight of two in the water. RCMP say that strong winds and lightening made the situation riskier.
RCMP and Yukon Search and rescue deployed boats and brought in a private helicopter company to help scan the lake. A little over an hour after the vessel had capsized, the boaters were found.
A police officer wearing a dry suit and a personal floatation device entered the water from the air and brought one person to the shore and the other to the RCMP boat. The only one who was wearing a life jacket was the dog. They were safely rescued by police.
The disabled boat that made the call was also brought safely to the shore with the help of the RCMP.
The boaters were checked out by paramedics and taken to the hospital.
