Quebec English Electoral Debate Discusses First Nations and Inuit Topics

First Nations topics around population growth and employment were discussed at the Quebec English electoral debate in Montreal on Monday.

Philippe Couillard, the current premier of Quebec, says the province needs to bring in and employ more First Nations in different job sectors.

Jean-Francois Lisee, a Quebecois nationalist politician, also says employment by Inuit and First Nations are needed in more sectors, including areas with job shortages like Northern Canada.  

Assembly of First Nations Chief Quebec/Labrador Ghislain Picard also commented on the forum, acknowledging that some discussion is finally occurring in some debates in the province.

He also says 55 percent of the First Nations population are under the age of 25 and many are ready to work provided employment, training, jobs, measures and plans are put into place by the Quebec political parties.

Chief Picard has said he also will formally invite political parties fo a formal meeting with the Chiefs Assembly 100 days into the new Quebec Administration to discuss issues around the economy, resources and lands.

The Assembly of First Nations Quebec-Labrador is a political organization representing 43 Chiefs of the First Nations in Quebec and Labrador.

The Quebec general election occurres on October 1st.
