Bradley Mitchell admitted to taking very little meat from a caribou hunt on the Dempster Highway in July 2013.
A former NWT hunter has pleaded guilty in Yukon territorial court of wasting wild game meat. The incident stems from July 2013, where witnesses reported Bradley Mitchell hunting caribou near Rock River on the Dempster Highway. The following day, the abandoned carcasses of several caribou were discovered by these witnesses and the matter was reported to Conservation Officers.
CO's located the abandoned caribou and interviewed Mitchell, who admitted harvesting the caribou and only retrieving a small quantity of meat. Mitchell was charged under the Wildlife Act but did not attend his court date. A warrant was issued for his arrest.
In December 2017 Mitchell was located by Mounties and brought to court on an outstanding matter. Mitchell was fined $2000, is prohibited from hunting until 2021 and must complete the hunting ethics course before obtaining a hunting licence.
