NND Chief Mervyn says more hunters are coming to Mayo and not respecting the animals
First Nation of Nacho Nyak Dun Chief Simon Mervyn says moose hunters are showing a lack of respect within the First Nation's traditional territory.
He says Nacho Nyak Dun has noticed a large increase of hunters to the Mayo area, with many using four-wheelers, which he says impact the wildlife.
Mervyn claims there has been improper treatment of moose meat, adding there is concern that this activity is not sustainable hunting, and could have a direct impact on Aboriginal rights and harvesting.
He says this demonstrates the importance in protecting some of Nacho Nyak Dun's territory for wildlife.
