Mayor Kirk Cameron and Councillors Anne Middler, Dan Boyd, Lenore Morris, Eileen Melynchuk, Jenny Hamilton, and Paolo Gallina have taken their oaths of office.
The new Mayor and Council for the City of Whitehorse were sworn into office last week.
On Friday, Mayor Kirk Cameron and Councillors Anne Middler, Dan Boyd, Lenore Morris, Eileen Melynchuk, Jenny Hamilton, and Paolo Gallina took their oaths of office during a ceremony at City Hall.
Cameron took a moment to say a few words before he and his council made some early appointments.
“The residents of Whitehorse; they have elected us to lead the city and it is truly an honour and a privilege to serve with you,” said Cameron from his seat in the council chambers. “I also want to thank the members of the previous council, and those that came before, for their service to our community, and for leaving the city in a good position.”
“To my new council members, I look forward to working with you all over the next four years.”
This four-year term is the first in the Yukon’s history. Speaking with CHON-FM shortly after announcing his campaign, Cameron said he was looking forward to the new format.
“What it does for me, is it gives me a sense that I’ve got one more year where I can truly turn my mind over to putting in place and implementing the priorities that council will set in their first few weeks when we sit down to determine what the council’s priorities will be for the four-year term.”
The first meeting of the new City Council was held on November 4, at 5:30 p.m.
