The company says they will suspend aeronautical studies until further notice.
NAV Canada, a company that provides air traffic control services, says they will continue to service Whitehorse and other communities across Canada.
Last fall, NAV Canada launched 29 aeronautical studies in effort to streamline operations.
Today, the company issued a press release that says they will “suspend aeronautical studies currently underway related to remote or northern locations until further notice.”
“I was very pleased to see today, that NAV CANADA is suspending its review of potentially reducing services in remote & northern locations, including in Whitehorse.” Reads a statement issued by Yukon MP Larry Bagnell.
“This is something that was of great concern to our community, and I have met with officials at NAV Canada to express and to convey that message. Many Yukoners joined me in this effort to protect air traffic control services in Whitehorse.” says Bagnell
NAV Canada says there will be no site closures at air traffic control towers or flight service stations across the country.
