The decision was given at a Carcross/Tagish First Nation Executive Council meeting yesterday.
Carcross/Tagish First Nation Executive Council have appointed Maria Benoit as their new Deputy Haa Shaa du Hen (Chief).
Maria Benoit is from the Deisheetaan Clan, known as the split tail Beaver and crow moieity, and the decision was given yesterday at an Carcross/Tagish First Nation Executive Council meeting
Maria Benoit has been on Executive Council for the Carcross/Tagish First Nation government for over a decade, and Benoit helped establish the referendum and ratification vote for self-government of the Carcross/Tagish First Nation in the early 2000's.
Benoit will serve as chief for up to a four-year term from the date of selection by the Executive Council.
