Opportunistic thieves would check under vehicles, look on top of tires, and will look in gas tanks.
As the tourist season begins, the Whitehorse RCMP is reminding residents to keep their vehicle safe.
According to a media release, the RCMP said in order to significantly reduce the chances of losing your vehicle to thieves, simple measures like not leaving anything valuable in the vehicle, not running vehicle unattended, and closing and locking of all doors and windows are encouraged.
The release also noted that key fobs should not be left in the console, inside the vehicle or hidden in places in the vehicle as opportunistic thieves would check under vehicles, look on top of tires, and will look in gas tanks.
Anyone who has been a victim of a crime is encouraged to report it immediately as all calls to the RCMP are important.
Any information and tips provided to police, no matter how small they seem, can go a long way in helping track, solve and prevent crimes.
To report a crime to the police, call 867-667-5555. To remain anonymous, please contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1 (800) 222-8477 or online at
