The First Nation will be voting this week regarding how to utilize the agricultural benefits agreement.

The K'atl'odeeche First Nations will be voting this week regarding how they will be utilizing a 28.3 million dollar agricultural benefits agreement.

The First Nation is located in Hay River, Northwest Territories, and is one of 21 bands in British Columbia, Alberta and the Northwest Territories that are negotiating or have negotiated a Treaty 8 federal claim.

The treaty was ratified in 1900 and promised agricultural necessities to First Nations who wanted to take up farming.

K'atl'odeeche First Nation Chief Roy Fabian is hopeful that 645 of the First Nation members living on and off the reserve would each get $15,000 as well in the agreement.

While almost 9.7 millions would go to membership payments, Chief Fabian notes the other 18 million would be put into a trust for social programs, housing and economic initiatives, and scholarships.

Members will vote on Wednesday and results are expected Thursday.
