Kaska Artist Dennis Shorty to Open new Art Exhibit Today

The exhibit at Yukon College features nine paintings of Shorty's childhood.

Kaska artist Dennis Shorty of Ross River, known for his wood and antler carvings is taking on a new medium, which is being unveiled at Yukon College today. Shorty created nine watercolour and ink paintings, which depict stories he was told by his grandfather, before Shorty was sent to Residential School in Lower Post at the age of five. He says the creation of the paintings helped him in the healing process from the abuse suffered at mission school. Shorty spoke to reporter Dan Jones about his exhibit.
