This is the 13th year that the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition has hosted Poverty and Homelessness Action Week in Whitehorse.
The Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition (YAPC) and the Voices Influencing Change program officially kicked off Homelessness Action Week today with several keynote speakers at an event which occurred at 509 Hanson Street at 10am.
Speakers talked about issues those living in poverty face, including housing and employment.
Kerry Nolan, co-facilitator of the VIC program, urged those impacted by homelessness to voice their own concerns with council candidates before the upcoming elections on Thursday.
Members also highlighted while issues facing homelessness tend to be Whitehorse-centric, Yukoners need to remember every community in the territory has different needs to address and help those living in poverty.
The YAPC was formed back in 1996 and currently has over 430 members
