The federal government has committed $3.1 million to the Kluane First Nation to help with the installation and operation of three wind turbines in Destruction Bay.
The turbines will be connected to the community's local power grid and the project is anticipated to create local jobs in the community.
In a statement, Kluane First Nation Chief Bob Dickson says he's excited to see the project come to fruition, particularly since his community has been working hard to fulfill renewable energy projects since the 1980's.
Yukon MP Larry Bagnell says the investment will help the community lower it's greenhouse gas emissions from traditional fuel sources like diesel and will help to provide lower energy costs for the First Nation.
$2 million is being provided by Natural Resources Canada towards the project amount.
