Emergency Cellphone Program for Vulnerable Women Goes Over-Budget

The Yukon Status of Women's Council wants the vulnerable women who got cell phones to know the devices are working again at least for audio and texting.

Project coordinator Heidi Marion says Yukon Government had the 325 phones cut-off last Friday, because the 3 gigabytes of data had exceeded the program cost to just under 59-thousand dollars after only a month and a half. Way over what was supposed to be a four-month long program's $52,000 budget.

Marion says about 60 of the phones had overage issues so Yukon Government disconnected them all.
