2020 Arctic Winter Games organizing committee named CHON-FM the "Official Indigenous Broadcaster"
On Friday, January 17, senior members of the 2020 Arctic Winter Games organizing committee and CHON-FM agreed on the partnership of AWG 2020 and CHON-FM to become the "Official Indigenous Broadcaster" of the Whitehorse, Yukon 50th Arctic Winter Games from March 15 till March 21.
The 2020 Arctic Winter Games is comprised of 21 sports, in four categories: Traditional Sports, Nordic Sports, Indoor Sports and Ice Sports.
Over 2000 participants (Athletes and support staff, family members) from 9 international contingents will travel to Whitehorse, Yukon to participate in the games starting with the official opening ceremonies on March 15th from Takhini Arena in Whitehorse.
International contingents are from Alaska, Alberta North, Greenland, NWT, Nunavik-Quebec, Nunavut, Sapmi (from Northern Scandinavia - Sweden, Norway, Finland and Russia), Yamal (Siberia, Northern Russia) and our home team Yukon.
Here is the official theme song of the 50th Anniversary Arctic Winter Games 2020 - "Bring It North", written and produced by Yukon musician Daniel Ashley, featuring several artists from across the North.
