The agreement covers several areas including; justice, education and fiscal matters
Self Governing First Nations Chiefs and the Territorial government have completed their joint priority action plan.
Since the Liberals were elected, they and First Nations have been negotiating a plan on shared priorities. Some of the priorities agreed to include; fiscal relations, treaty implementation, justice and education.
Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief Peter Johnston says without concluding the priorities agreement, the Yukon forum most likely would have dissolved. He says Chiefs have been in the Forum process for over a decade, and feel progress is needed.
Working groups will be established to review existing process and determine where improvements can be made. The leaders signed the agreement in Champagne Friday.
