Approximately 75 members of the Canadian Armed Forces performed a military exercise in Haines Junction this past weekend.
75 Canadian army reservists were deployed in a training exercise known as Arctic Bison in Yukon this past weekend.
The reservists are part of the Arctic Response Company Group, and training involved an 18 Field Ambulance, 1 Canadian Ranger Patrol Group and a 440 Transport Squadron.
The drills took place around Haines Junction, and according to a news release, the drills conducted were to ensure Canadian soldiers are ready to deploy to Canada's Northern and Arctic Region in the event of a domestic disaster or major emergency.
The training scenario involved securing a route to an aircraft crash site after a practice emergency call was sent to the Killarny Research Station near Haines Junction.
The route took soldiers across 110 kilometres of mountainous terrain from the station to the crash site, which lied approximately 40 km from Haines Junction.
Most of the members from the Arctic Bison expedition involve part- time military personnel and the training exercises occur annually in different Canadian Arctic Regions.
