Canadians Michelle Phillips and Hans Gatt are closely behind the leader in second and third place.
Twenty-seven out of thirty mushers have officially reached the Dawson City Checkpoint on Day 5 of the Yukon Quest, the halfway point of the race.
American Brent Sass is still in the lead after day five of the Yukon Quest with Canadians Michelle Phillips and Hans Gatt in second and third place respectively.
Brent Sass was the first person to reach the Dawson City Checkpoint, and he'll receive the Dawson City Award of 2oz of Klondike placer gold provided he goes on to complete the race.
Mushers arriving at Dawson will now be taking a mandatory 36-hour rest as part of the race.
The next 300 km of the Yukon Quest from Dawson City will involve a 3000 foot elevation again as they head towards the Alaskan Border.
