The Minister of Highways and Public Works expects activity will start soon after the tenders close on the Alaska Highway expansion.
Minister Richard Mostyn made the comments after The Yukon Environmental and Socio-economic Assessment Board have issued approval and recommendations for the widening project through Hillcrest near the Eric Neilson International airport..
In a report issued Friday, YESAB recommends the Project be allowed to proceed.
The report contains four recommendations to Highways and Public Works for measures after the project is completed.
Those include monitoring average vehicle speed and conducting a traffic count, as well as an audit of collision prevention.
Mostyn says its already in the works.
Minister Mostyn says the project tender has already been issued with a closing date of May 14th.
A spokesperson for the The Hillcrest Community Association says residents don't want the Hillcrest Drive intersection blown up to seven lanes, as that would not provide the highest level of safety.
Shaunagh Stikeman says she's pleased the Airport Chalet motel and restaurant will remain in one piece. Minister Mostyn says that the plans have a frontage road broken up to accommodate the longtime restaurant.
