20 First Nations have signed agreements for the proposed pipeline project across northern British Columbia.

20 First Nations have signed an agreement with Coastal GasLink for a 670-kilometer natural gas pipeline running from Dawson Creek, British Columbia to the Kitimat LNG Facility on the Pacific Ocean for export.

According to Coastal Gaslink President Rick Gateman, the project would provide contract and employment opportunities for First Nations along the route, including sustainable sources of revenue over the life of the project.

Gatemen also notes all 20 elected leaders of the 20 First Nations bands garnered support for the project, including traditional and hereditary leaders within the First Nations communities.

Coastal GasLink project has also awarded some 620$ millions dollars in contracting and employment opportunities for northern First Nations business as well.

Another $400 million awarded for First Nations firms is also predicted during the construction phase.

The project commenced in 2012 and TransCanada was selected by LNG Canada to design, build, own and operate GasLink.

TransCanada Corporation is a North American energy company based in Calgary, Alberta.
