60's Scoop Lawsuit Launched in Yukon

The suit names two people from the Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation

A class-action lawsuit has been filed in the Yukon naming two Indigenous people taken from their homes in the so-called 60's Scoop program.

The case names---Charles Eshleman and Christine Mullin of the Tr'ondek Hwech'in First Nation of Dawson City as being taken from their homes.

The suit claims that hundreds of Aboriginal children were placed in foster, adoptive or group homes for over 40 years.

The suit also alleges that some of the children suffered physical or sexual abuse.

Earlier this month, the federal government announced a $750 million settlement for the victims. A judge still has to certify the lawsuit.
