The announcement came yesterday.

The City of Whitehorse has launched it's next review of it's Official Community Plan (OCP).

OCP Project Manager Ben Campbell says the launch is exciting for the community.

"The official community plan is our highest-level planning document that sets the direction for the city over the next 20 years. It (the plan) looks at how we should grow and change, how we live, and how we get around and live in our city."

The 20-year plan planning process will focus on key issues around land-use planning, housing, sustainable growth, park space, transportation and recreation.

There will be four phases to the plan, and the first phase will be to build awareness.

Campbell also says the public will be engaged from start to finish.

"There will be engagement throughout the entire OCP.It's going to take some time for the OCP to go through the process. We're currently in phase one, called the Awareness Building phase. It's all about educating, informing and gathering initial ideas from the public"

Campbell says there is a survey available for Yukoner's who want to provide feedback regarding the process, as well as a drop-in event  at the  Mount McIntyre Recreation Centre Grey Mountain Room on January 23th from 4pm-8pm for Yukoner's who to share their their visions with city planners around the future of Whitehorse.

More engagement sessions with the public will be announced in the coming months as more input is received.
