When one of the victims confronted the intruder, he was immediately bear sprayed. Both victims were able to secured themselves in a safe location. The intruder then stole an F150 truck and left the location. Both victims were treated at the Carmacks Health Center and later released.
On February 19, 2021, at approximately 4:24am, Carmacks RCMP were notified of an armed robbery. The complainant reported that he and another person were woken up by an intruder at their accommodations in a rural area by Kilometre 62 on Mount Hansen Road near Carmacks (a Mining Site).
When one of the victims confronted the intruder, he was immediately bear sprayed. Both victims were able to secured themselves in a safe location. The intruder then stole an F150 truck and left the location. Both victims were treated at the Carmacks Health Center and later released.
The investigation identified a suspect known to police. The suspect made his way to British Columbia in the stolen vehicle and was arrested in the area of Quesnel, British Columbia, on the evening of February 19th, after evading the RCMP in several jurisdictions, including Fort Nelson, Fort St. John, and Prince George.
The suspect was subsequently remanded to Prince George Regional Correctional Centre until his next court appearance March 1st to face charges in relation to offences he allegedly committed in British Columbia. Once the suspect has dealt with his matters in British Columbia, he will have to address the following criminal charges in the Yukon:
William NADEAU, age 44, of Hinton Alberta, has been charged with the following offenses with regards to the alleged events in the Yukon:
- Robbery Sec 344 CC;
- Assault with a weapon Sec 267(a) CC;
- Break and Enter Sec 348(a)(b) CC;
- Theft of truck Sec 333.1(1) CC;
- Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose Sec 88(2) CC;
- Disguise with intent Sec 351(2) CC;
- Mischief Sec 430(4) CC; and,
- Attempted forcible confinement Sec 279(2) CC.
