Disposal Fees for E-Waste and Tires to Change in February

New regulation were to come in August, but Community Services wants to consult Municipalities first.

Yukoners could be feeling a one-two punch at the cash register next year, when buying automotive tires and electronics.

The federal carbon tax is expected to be implemented in January, but impact on pricing on these goods is uncertain.

Now the Yukon government is pushing back its designated materials regulations from August to February.

Community Services Minister John Streicker told the Association of Yukon Communities Friday that he wanted further discussion with municipalities regarding the price on tires.

One proposal would see an added disposal charge at the till of between $10 to $50 a tire. Currently that charge is $5 per tire.

Beverage containers fees will rise in August though, but between five-to-10 cents.
