Racers from Canada and the US will meet in the middle.
Like many events, last year’s Klondike Road Relay went virtual due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but this year things are back to normal… well, kinda.
“We were not aware how the borders were going to be opening, if they were going to be fully open or not, so we could not do the normal Klondike Road Relay from Skagway to Whitehorse. We brainstormed earlier in the year and thought ‘ok we can do it,’ we got permission to do a condensed version, so ‘let’s start at The BC Yukon border’ and call it a kinda,” Sport Yukon Director Marg White explains.
The “Kinda” Klondike Road Relay will be a one-day in person event open to five person running teams who will run legs six to 10 towards Whitehorse. Since people from the US can enter Canada, Americans looking to get in on the fun will meet in the middle for the race start and then pound the pavement for legs five to one heading towards Skagway.
There will also be a virtual component for anyone who can’t make it in real life.
If you are hoping to count your leg towards the Senators Cup, don’t worry, Sport Yukon is working on rebuilding their database over the winter to log people’s name and leg.
Registration closes on August 18th; race day is on September 11th.
