The Crown submitted that Primozic died as a result of multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.
The Yukon Supreme Court found a British Columbia man not guilty of second-degree murder for the death of a Haines Junction man four years ago.
On Tuesday, 24-year-old Seth Boss was instead convicted of the lesser charge of manslaughter in the death of Anthony Primozic on March 9, 2022.
Boss had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in 2023, but the Crown prosecutors did not accept his plea, moving forward with the trial.
During the trial last month, the Crown submitted that Primozic died as a result of “multiple blunt and sharp force injuries.”
Chief Justice Suzanne Duncan ruled that the prosecution had not proved Boss’ intention to cause death “beyond a reasonable doubt.”
The maximum sentence for manslaughter in Canada is life in prison, but the average length of sentences across the country is typically between 6 and 8 years.
Boss will return to court early May for sentencing.
