In addition to the funding for municipalities, up to $88,000 is allocated annually to the Association of Yukon Communities for professional development opportunities.
The Yukon's eight municipalities are set to receive a record-breaking $30 million in funding from the Government of Yukon through the 2026 Comprehensive Municipal Grant, marking a 2% increase from 2025.
According to a media release, this grant, the territory's core funding for municipal governments, supports essential services like fresh drinking water, wastewater treatment, and waste collection.
In addition to the funding for municipalities, up to $88,000 is allocated annually to the Association of Yukon Communities for professional development opportunities.
"This funding is essential, and there's more work ahead to ensure it continues to meet the needs of Yukon communities," said Lauren Hanchar, President of the Association of Yukon Communities.
The grant, created in 1991, is calculated using a formula considering population, dwellings, and infrastructure assets, with a guarantee that funding won't drop below 2024 levels.
