“Yukoners deserve affordable, accurate, and fair electricity bills, an investigation is needed to make sure that billing is exactly that.” -Yukon NDP Leader Kate White
The Yukon NDP is calling for an investigation into ATCO and Yukon Energy electricity bills.
In a media release, the Yukon NDP urged the Government of Yukon to order the Yukon Utilities Board to investigate electricity billing following reports from Yukoners whose bills are significantly higher than expected.
“Yukoners deserve affordable, accurate, and fair electricity bills," said Yukon NDP Leader Kate White in the release. "An investigation is needed to make sure that billing is exactly that.”
According to the release, an investigation into the billing would identify problematic billing practices such as long periods of charging people based on estimates rather than actual electricity use, followed by large corrections.
Yukon NDP critic for Energy, Mines, and Resources Carmen Gustafson said that electricity bills are a huge concern for Yukoners, and that the Yukon government needs to address the problem by ordering an investigation.
In the release, the Yukon NDP says that it will circulate a petition to support the investigation this summer.
