The festival will look a little different this year.

Champagne and Aishihik First Nation’s Dákų̀ Nän Tsʼèddhyèt celebration of drumming, song and dance is back on after getting COVID canceled last year. The festival will be virtual though because as Chief Steve Smith puts it “we aren’t out of the clear yet.”

The name translates to “our house is waking up the land” and this year’s s theme is “The Trails That Connect Us”. Chief Smith says “We are grateful that in the Yukon we can begin safe in-person gatherings, so we can share our culture together once more.”

The event will feature Indigenous performers, dancers, pre-recorded performances, and in-person and online workshops. The livestream will start this Friday at 4:30pm.
