The federal government's First Nations and Inuit Policing Program (FNIPP) funding will end on March 31, 2026.
The Carcross/Tagish First Nation has reduced its community safety and wellness program services following the loss of federal funding. The program, launched in 2022, had six full-time liaisons supporting community safety initiatives, prevention, and access to services.
According to a media release, the Government of Canada informed C/TFN that the federal government's First Nations and Inuit Policing Program (FNIPP) funding will end on March 31, 2026. However, they've secured an additional year of partial funding from Public Safety Canada, and are pursuing longer-term solutions with the federal and territorial governments.
