The campaign will focus on reductions around single-use disposable items in Yukon.
Zero Waste Yukon will be conducting a new campaign targeting single-use disposable items.
The campaign follows a successful Waste Reduction Week that occurred from October 15-21, and over 200 people attended events throughout Whitehorse regarding ethical resource consumption and disposal.
Speeches last week included ethical garbage consumption from Author Bea Johnson and her book, "Zero Waste Home."
This past Sunday evening also provided visitors a glimpse at MacBride Museum regarding how residents can reduce their own garbage consumption drastically over the course of a year.
Ira Webb, Program Coordinator for Zero Waste Yukon, told CHON News more about exactly what single-use disposable items they'll be targeting and how the campaign will work.
"The campaign in a nutshell will be focusing on single-use items in Yukon and not only look at how we can raise awareness but to gather a group of people together to help look for solutions. Some of the things we are going to be looking at are single-use retail bags, single-use plastic take out containers and disposable cups."
Zero Waste Yukon is a not-for-profit organization that aims to increase awareness and action in the territory around consumption and disposal of resources.
The organization will be hosting a meeting this Thursday at 12pm in the Whitehorse Public Library to lay out the groundwork for the campaign and Ira notes anyone's whose interest in participating is welcome.
