Yukon tourism is looking for the public's input into the tourism strategy draft that has been proposed by the Yukon tourism strategy steering committee.
Yukoner's have until October 3rd to add their public input into the draft for a Yukon Tourism Strategy.
Labelled "Sustainable Tourism. Our Path. Our Future." it lays out a vision for tourism to be a vibrant, sustainable component of Yukon’s economy and society for the benefit of future generations. The draft strategy provides strategic direction for the next decade, guided by a number of core values, and includes several strategic actions to bring the vision to life.
The goal-oriented draft strategy was developed with the guidance and expertise of the Yukon Tourism Development Strategy Steering Committee, comprised of fifteen individuals who represent Yukon First Nations, municipalities, the arts and culture community, and tourism businesses.
Over 500 Yukoners joined the conversation in-person at one of 55 engagement sessions held across the territory.
Public feedback was also provided online through written submissions and an online survey, for a total of over 12,000 comments on how to sustainably grow tourism in Yukon.
It's calculated that tourism makes up 4.4 percent of Yukon's GDP, which is the second highest in Canada, while about 13% of employees in Yukon work in tourism.
Public comment can be sent to tourism@gov.yk.ca, the link has been made available to the CHONfm website.
