Since its inception in 2002, the program has awarded over $500,000, helping students in the North.
Yukoners pursuing post-secondary education are encouraged to apply for Northwestel's Northern Futures Scholarship Program, which has entered its 23rd year.
The program offers six scholarships of $4,000 each to support Northern students, including those from Yukon, in achieving their academic goals. The scholarship recognizes academic potential, leadership, and community involvement.
Since its inception in 2002, the program has awarded over $500,000, helping students in the North pursue studies in fields such as Engineering, Business, Communications, and Technology.
In addition to financial support, recipients may also gain access to summer employment or future career opportunities with Northwestel.
"The North is full of promise," says Curtis Shaw, President of Northwestel. "This scholarship is our way of investing in that promise and showing the next generation that we see their potential and they belong in classrooms, boardrooms, and beyond."
As per a media release, Northwestel aims to award at least half of its scholarships to Indigenous students each year, reflecting a sustained commitment to reconciliation and equity in education.
Applications are open until July 2, 2025. Full eligibility and submission details are available at nwtel.ca/scholarships. All applicants will be notified by the end of August regarding their application.
