The Government of Yukon has released its 2024 Putting People First Annual Report, showcasing significant progress in transforming the territory's health and social services system.
The report highlights key achievements, including the successful launch of the Whitehorse Walk-in Clinic at Mah's Point, which has provided care to over 3,362 patients. Additionally, a land-based healing program led by the Council of Yukon First Nations has received 44 applications for funding.
The modernization and expansion of primary care have also seen notable advancements, with over 2,000 Yukoners connected to a physician or nurse practitioner through the Find a Primary Care Provider program.
A major milestone noted in the report is the establishment of Shäw Kwä'a, the Yukon's first Health Authority. This new authority aims to create a more integrated, collaborative, person-centered, and culturally safe healthcare system.
Minister of Health and Social Services Tracy-Anne McPhee emphasized the importance of this transformation, stating, "Our goal is to build a healthcare system that is integrated, collaborative, person-centered, and culturally safe."
The report reveals that 33% of the 76 recommendations outlined in the Putting People First report are now operational, with 65 recommendations in progress or operational, seven yet to be started, and four defining principles and approach.
