The Yukon Chamber of Commerce notes that the rates for three of the eight non-government rate groups containing about 2,500 employers remain unchanged and the rates for the other five rate groups containing about 1,000 employers all go down for 2021.
The Yukon Chamber of Commerce (YCC) continues to advocate the importance of safe and healthy workplaces.
In reviewing the newly released 2021 Yukon Workers Compensation Health and Safety Board Industry Classification and Assessment Rates, the Yukon Chamber of Commerce notes that the rates for three of the eight non-government rate groups containing about 2,500 employers remain unchanged and the rates for the other five rate groups containing about 1,000 employers all go down for 2021.
The assessment rate for the government rate group containing 25 employers is the only rate that will increase.
Yukon Chamber of Commerce President Peter Turner said, "It is indeed good news that no private-sector employers in the Yukon will pay higher assessment rates next year; in fact, many employers will pay lower rates.
We are all reminded of the importance of safe and healthy workplaces, and these rates suggest that employers' and workers' efforts are helping to accomplish this. Yukon workers and employers need to continue to work together to focus on maintaining a safe work environment. When they do, assessment rates go down. Decreased costs to employers enable businesses to invest resources in ways that grow the economy, create wealth, and increase employment."
The Yukon Chamber of Commerce encourages all employers, managers, supervisors, and workers to work together to ensure everyone is safe at work.
