Around 100-200 people turned out for the event.
A skateboard project that commenced last spring finally opened in Carcross on Saturday.
The total cost for the project is $426,000, and major funders were the Carcross Tagish First Nations who donated $220,822 dollars to the projects and CanNor who donated $149, 578.
The Carcross Tagish First Nations also donated the land for the project.
Ka Shade Heni First Nations Grand Chief Andy Carville also spoke about how the skatepark is great for the youth and the community, saying locals are encouraged to facilitate their own ideas in the further development of unused land in the park area.
Chad Dickson, one of the skateboarders testing out the new park, came all the way from Vancouver to try it out.
Daphne Pelletier, communications coordinator for the event, expected around 50 people to come out for the event, but between 100-200 people turned out.
