Three Councillors were acclaimed during the 2020 to 2023 Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Council election
TH Council Sworn In
The 2020 to 2023 Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Council was sworn in Wednesday night at an event livestreamed on the Internet.
Three Councillors were acclaimed during the recent election period: Ryan Peterson, Clara Van Bibber, and Darren Bullen. Simon Nagano was also acclaimed as the Deputy Chief. The 2020 election marked the first time a standalone Deputy Chief position was to be directly chosen by citizens. Previously, the role was assigned amongst Councillors.
The election for a new Chief, a contested position, was postponed until it could be safely conducted with appropriate COVID-19 protocols. As per the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in Constitution, the Deputy Chief will act in the Chief role until then.
Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in appreciates everyone who joined us in welcoming the new Council via livestream and looks forward to a time in the future when we can all gather safely to celebrate in person.
