Five people travelling in the pickup truck were transported to hospital with minor injuries
A serious collision involving a pickup truck and an SUV on the Alaska Highway has resulted in multiple injuries and a temporary closure of the highway.
According to Teslin RCMP, the incident occurred on January 5, 2025, at approximately 5:10 pm, near kilometre 1118, approximately 130 km south of Teslin.
Emergency responders, including Teslin RCMP, Emergency Medical Services, and Volunteer Fire Departments from Watson Lake and Teslin, were dispatched to the scene. Yukon Highways and Public Works also attended to assist with the response.
The collision resulted in significant damage to both vehicles, requiring the extraction of occupants. Five people travelling in the pickup truck were transported to hospital with minor injuries. The lone occupant of the SUV sustained more serious injuries and was also transported to hospital.
The Alaska Highway was closed to both lanes of traffic for approximately three hours while emergency responders worked to clear the scene.
Temperatures at the time of the collision were around minus 25 degrees Celsius, and the road surface was reported to be slippery. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by Teslin RCMP.
