The fine was given after the hotel failed to adhere to the cities emergency services bylaw.
Whitehorse Days Inn is facing a fine of $1500 after the hotel was found guilty on Tuesday for failing to adhere to the cities emergency services bylaw over the summer.
The incident occurred in July when a hotel guest at the Inn noticed no emergency lighting come on after a power outage that occurred in the area.
After the complaint was lodged on July 24, the Whitehorse Fire Department followed-up on July 31st and inspected the hotel.
After a test conducted concluded the emergency lighting banks failed to work and the hotel didn't comply by authorities to repair the emergency lighting by a certain date, the fine was given.
While the fine still needs to be paid within 21 days, a lawyer on behalf of the hotel has noted the emergency lighting banks have since been fixed.
Michael Dine, the city's fire chief, says its expected that hotels provide safe accommodation and clear escape routes for any guest staying in hotel rooms throughout the city.
