Former WRFN Councillor John VanderMeer and current KDFN Councillor Linda Moen seek nomination with the Yukon NDP, while C/TFN citizen and recent CYFN Grand Chief candidate Rose Sellars seeks nomination with the Yukon Party.
Three First Nations candidates have announced that they are seeking nomination for the 2025 territorial election.
Last week, former White River First Nation Councillor John VanderMeer announced that he was seeking the Yukon NDP nomination for Kluane. In his announcement, he said that he has heard from folks in the Kluane district for years that they aren’t getting the healthcare or services they deserve.
VanderMeer is currently the President of Copper Niisüü Limited Partnership, WRFN’s development corporation, which completed a 1.9-megawatt solar facility for Beaver Creek earlier this week.

On Wednesday, Carcross/Tagish First Nation citizen Rose Sellars announced that she was seeking the Yukon Party nomination for Riverdale North. She said that creating the kind of innovation and progress needed to move the territory’s priorities forward requires collaboration, diverse perspectives, and shared ideas
Sellars was a recent candidate for Council of Yukon Grand Chief, and sought nomination with the Yukon Liberal Party in 2016.

And on Thursday, Kwanlin Dün First Nation Councillor Linda Moen announced that she would seek Yukon NDP nomination for Mountainview. Speaking at Miles Canyon, she said that she believes in the value of public service, having dedicated much of her life to the work.
Moen was elected to KDFN council in 2023, and has 21 years of experience as a public servant with the Government of Canada.

All three political parties in the territory have a maximum of six weeks until an election is called. The territorial election must be held on or before November 3.
